Learning Environments, Social Milieus and Participation in Education.
“Who is missing in adult education centres?”
How can we appeal to people and encourage them to take part in education? In order to answer this question, we must first take into consideration the different life and learning contexts of potential participants in education (e.g. of young adults), i.e. their different social milieus: their backgrounds and mentalities that influence their willingness to learn and their expectations in learning.
By examining the development in adult education centres, the 2010 Future Forum wants to clarify whether educational work adapted to milieu, age and target groups is necessary and reasonable: Is it suited to expand the clientele of adult education centres?
What will be explored are ways to new educational concepts that also account for the difference and diversity of “learning environments” in outreach educational work. The introductory conference contributions will deal with social milieus of mainly young adults and their specific learning environments.
The 2010 Future Forum strives to
• create an open and result-oriented dialogue between professionals working in adult education, education planners and researchers, and
• work out practical requirements concerning the present and future of adult education on an international level (expert lectures, workshops on future topics featuring working groups on strategy development).
The Future Forum is part of an international, Central European network supported by dvv international and EAEA.
